I have had these for several years now. I read that it could mean lack of nutrition or toxic substances but neither is the problem. I eat a pretty well rounded diet, and I've never done drugs and rarely drink alcohol. Does any one know what these could mean? There are several horizontal lines/dips.What do deep horizontal grooves in the thumb nails and big toes mean?
it means that you are naturally deficient in magnesium, zinc, selenium, and iron. I have them too.
I had to talk to my dermatologist about it, that is who you see to treat fingernails, as they got deep.
Sometimes it indicates a thyroid problem, but that can be taken care of with proper nutrition.

Soak your foot in a bucket of hot salt water for about 20 minutes.
Go barefoot for a few hours. Put a dab of triple antibiotic ointment in the center (gauze) of a band aid and apply it to the infected area.
That'll do it!
I would say soak it in water as hot as you can stand with Epsom salts in it.Repeat daily til it is cleared up.The infection is deep so if this doesn't work you should see your Dr.

What is the best treatment for growing your nails?
I do not bite my nails, but they are very soft and break easily , can anyone help me find a solution. What is the best treatment for growing your nails?
Sally Hansen Vitamin E nail and cuticle oil - its amazing itll strengthen your nails and also make them healthier in general. If you bite your nails get one of those nail biting oils they're really bitter and you won't keep biting, alternatively, if you can go for the more expensive fake nails (at a salon the others look terrible), you won't be able to bite them and it'll give them time to strengthen. What is the best treatment for growing your nails?

The only way to grow healthy nails is to be healthy. There are some vitamin pills out there called 'skin, hair and nails'.
Also, almond oil will help. (put on the nail bed).

What is the best way to get a really strong / dark color of nail polish off of nails?
other than the typical brands of polish remover that can be bought at a grocery store, are there any tricks other than going to an actual salon as far as getting polish off?
This is a deep purple almost black, any tips are greatly appreciated. What is the best way to get a really strong / dark color of nail polish off of nails?
soak them in acetone removerWhat is the best way to get a really strong / dark color of nail polish off of nails?
Use 100% acetone with a cotton ball to remove your polish. Then wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water so the acetone doesn't dry out your fingers and nails too much. When you first remove dark polish your nails may be a bit discolored (when you remove dark red or black polishes your nails may look a little red stained). This is normal. You will just have to wait it out. You can apply clear polish if you have brittle nails, but its best to leave them clean for a couple of days to regain your natural nail color.
i did the same and the only way i could get it off was to put another nail varnish on top and quickly rub it off before it set.
the wet varnish stuck to the dark one and rubbed off to...
{remember next time to apply a base coat ~ it protects yur nails from being dyed}
hope it comes off %26amp; gud luck x
Use a light colored nail polish to paint over the old polish. Then remove with an acetone remover. A good remover is Cutex Essential Care Pads. It's not acetone based, but it removes nail polish really well (without the mess!)
Just use regular nail polish remover but keep changing the cotton ball until all of the color is off. If you use a dirty cotton ball, the color will continue to transfer back on your nail. :)
use nail polish remover with a q tip and go around the edges then use a cotton ball to do the rest
Use nail polish with acetone in it then use rubbing alcohol after it..
nail polish remove or you can scratch it off
acetone.
it's about $2 at sally's.
take some hot water n acetone n soak ur fingers in it for 10 minutes and when u wipe it come off

Is it safe to use human nail polish to paint my dogs nails?
I've been painting my chihuahua's nails for 2 years and I've used human nail polish mostly and have never had a problem but people have told me its unsafe. Is it safe to use human nail polish to paint my dogs nails?
I have painted my dogs nails as well and have never had any problems. As long as the dog doesnt chew on their nails i dont see why it would hurt them.Is it safe to use human nail polish to paint my dogs nails?
I have done my dogs nails for a long time now myself with human nail polish also. I've never had a problem but if you are concern Iresently came across O.P.I has a dog nail polish line. They don't have that many colors but I'm guessing this would be healthier then just regular polish. If you go to Petedge.com they also have a line of polish and they have WAY more colors.
We take my dog to Petsmart to paint her nails, and we asked them if it is safe to paint her nails with regular nail polish and they said that it probably wont kill her, but they just recommended going to the store and get non toxic washable markers or that window paint stuff ( that is what they use).
Not only are some dogs sensitive to the nail polish but some nail polishes have toxins in them. I dont think it would kill the dog, might not even make them sick, just not healthy. Ask your vet though. You could always check with the groomer too and see what they suggest.
Some dogs are sensitive to the smell of nail polish, and if you have a dog that tends to lick its paws then it wouldn't be a good idea, but if you've been doing this for several years I doubt your dog will suddenly start having a problem with it.
Yes. The nail polish can get annoying to the dog, and it can lick it. Its just like a human licking nail polish, it wouldn't taste good, and the dog can get sick. It's also bad to have a dog smelling the nail polish.
Why are you painting your dogs nails? The fumes are toxic and I am sure your dog does not enjoy the experience. You are putting your dogs health in jeopardy. People who paint their dog's nails are doing it for their own entertainment rather than thinking about the dog.
I would say it's safe only if your dog doesn't chew on a lot of things. Nail polish can be very bad for a dog if it were to eat the nail polish.
Yes its safe

What color nails with a dress with cream bottom and black on top?
There is more cream than black and most of my accessories are black. What color nails with a dress with cream bottom and black on top?
I was just in my salon, during Prom time and saw a very pretty polish job. It was airbrushed and the base color was more ivory than white and then the prettiest black kind of scroll designs were dawn in on top, like feathery. Then, there were some tiny silver dots put on. Each nail was like a little work of art. I didn't think black could look that pretty on nails. What color nails with a dress with cream bottom and black on top?
get them like this http://images.google.ca/imgres?imgurl=ht鈥?/a>
Do your nails all cream colored. That nail color is in right now! Dont, please dont paint them all black. It will ruin the whole effect of the dress and that trend is getting old. The new dark nail color is navy blue.
French manicure would be very good as it is simple and yet gives your nails pretty look.

clear clean cut or black depending if its a party hard dress.

How do I keep fingernail polish on my nails?
I have natural nails, but they are not really hard, so they bend and the polish flakes off. All of the remedies for nail growth do not work so don't even say those...I have tired them all. Is there a polish for nails that either keeps them stiff or bends with the nail? How do I keep fingernail polish on my nails?
Essie Millions - if used correctly - WILL stregthen your nails. You can purchase the product at Trade Secret stores. Paint a coat of it on every other day. Remove the polish once weekly with a non-acetone nail polish remove, and repeat for ninety days. I've tried Sally Hansen, OPI, etc. Essie is the only one I've found to work.
You'll have to fix the problem of your nails bending before the polish will stay on. Rather than looking for a harder polish, you'll have to stregthen your nails. How do I keep fingernail polish on my nails?
go to drug stores and buy natural hand lotions that are healthy for hands and nails and they also help harden and strengthen nails. i think vaseline has some good ones. then if you want them to bee smoother without bends and dents you can buy one of those three step nail buffers that eliminate lines and bumps, smooth and harden. and lastly, apply a good top coat before AND after applying your color. if its still going wrong, go to a nail salon to get a maicure and dont be afraid to ask questions bout ur problem .
your nails are flimsy cuase they're not healthy. to make your nails stronger you basically just need to eat a lot more vegetables and fruits cause your probably no eatting enough.
and when your nail polish is dry, run your nails under cold water, and the nail polish will stay on longer
Before you paint your nails, apply a clear nail polish base. Then apply the color nail polish of your choice, and lastly, apply another coat of the clear nail polish. The base makes the polish last longer.
before you aply the colour paint firstly use some base coat of the same brand. Between coats make sure each coat is fully dry and after you have applied the paint use a top coat of the same brand
After you put the nail polish and it is dry, apply a top coat of transparent nail polish. This will make your nails thicker and therefore make your nail polish last.
Before and after you apply the nail polish also apply a clear coat.blemishes

How do you get glitter tips on your nails?
I have seen the most gorgeous nails with really thick (dense) glitter on the tips. I have been looking everywhere for a varnish (on the internet and in shops) and all reference I can find is for Gel or Acrylic nails. You must be able to get the same effect for regular nails? What is the best way to get your nails to grow?
I have short nails that continuosly break. They are soft so they bend easily. I have tried one type of that Nutra Nail stuff but it worked for a little while but then it stopped. My nails also grow uneven eventhough I file them so they can be even but it doesn't do much good. It is the same situation with my toenails except my toenails are stronger but they don't grow. What is the best way to get your nails to grow?
There is some nail polishes that help your nails grow. But just dont be too much around water and paint your nail with clear polish (clear because then you dont have to repaint them so often). I also heard if you rub garlic on your nails it helps but it would probably make your hands stink for a while. What is the best way to get your nails to grow?
keep them painted either color or clear.. doesn't matter and do not wash too many dishes.. basically don't be around water too much.. and keep on fileing them.. and drink milk.. that works for me
Definetly rubbing lotion a couple times a day on your fingertips, what ever you do don't bite them lol.
Filing is definitely the best way. It's like trimming split ends. Also soak your cuticles and then lift them away from the nail, trimming off old dead skin. This works also.
If you put your hands in moisture a lot (water, your mouth, etc), that makes them bend. So if you do that, stop.
unflavored geletin work. Mix some up and drink it. Your nails will harden up and grow in a matter of days.

How do I reinstall baseboard that still has nails in it?
We took out our baseboard to install laminate flooring and kept the baseboards to reinstall afterward. The nails are still in the baseboards, and we numbered them so we know where they go. How can I reinstall them easily? How do I reinstall baseboard that still has nails in it?
line up the old nail hole in the wall, with the nail. How do I reinstall baseboard that still has nails in it?
If you hammer the nails back through, you will chip a small part of wood out on each side of the nail. A better way is to pull the nail all the way through the board from the backside with a pliers.
Then you can re-use the hole with a slightly larger nail. Use finish nails and countersink them slightly. Fill the small countersunk holes with wood colored putty.
With all due respect, to you or anyone. Is the cove base painted, or natural stained?
If it's painted it won't matter. I'm so glad to see someone has removed then will replace cove base.
I take a Wire cutter, or pair of pliers, PULL the nails from the back side of the cove base, Line the cove base up appropriately, and re-nail, with new nails. You might even get the holes in the right place, but no matter, if you're going to paint, you should spackle the holes anyway, after using a Nail Set to depress them a fraction.
Steven Wolf
If it's natural/ stained wood, you'll still have the nail head/ holes, issue.
pull the old nails out through the back side,if you hammer them back through, the trim will splinter when the nail head is pushed back through.then simply set your base back where it came from and re nail it using new finish nails.
The best way to do it is to hire somebody. But if you want to do it yourself, here it goes. You take the base board and break or cut (which ever is easiest) the nail in the back with wire cutting pliers. If you have a 18 gauge finish nail gun, just place it back and nail it. If you don't have the nailer just use small 1 1/2 inch nails and a hammer. after you it's all on, you take lightweight spackling (buy at home depot like 2$) and cover all the nail holes. Next you apply caulking to the top part and the corners and joints. And you are al set up to paint. If the base doesn't cover your gaps on the bottom you think of putting shoe mold, (buy at home depot). same procedure. nails, spackling, caulk and paint. And that's the easiest way and the correct way to do it. Have fun!!!!
Knock the nails out from them and start with new nails as these may be bent and wouldn't go in as easily. You can use the same holes that the old nails were in and it should be very easy from there.
I have seen this many times
Consider taking a grinder and grinding the nails off on the backside of the baseboard.
Use a brad nailer or finish nails and fasten the baseboard to the wall.
Pushing the nails through may split the baseboard or leave a nail hole. This wont happen if you use the nail grinding suggestion.
Best of luck
All of these answers are good ones. However, your nail holes will not line back up with the old holes because you have added laminate flooring. You should be able to mark your studs easily though so you know where to put your new nails. Good luck.
line them up, or just hammer the nails back out and then hammer them in. Use a rubber mallet to hammer on the baseboard( not the nails) so you don't dent it.blemishes

Can a guy get their nails done with white tips?
I see girls with it all the time and I like to be a little bit girly. Where do you get them done? Can I do it myself? What's it called? Can a guy get their nails done with white tips?
if you're for real, YOU'RE MY NEW F*CKING HERO.
:)Can a guy get their nails done with white tips?
why Not? go to any nail salon %26amp; ask for a french tip manicure
its called a white tip orr french. yes u can do it yourself u can buy the pen at walgreens or a drugstore. you can get them done at a nail salon. =) good luck
i don't see why not?!
it's called a french manicure
and if you're really sturdy/straight,
you probably could =) oh and with the right nail polish of course.
you could get them done at like any nail studio or hair salon too?
(most hair salons do nails..) lol
OMG! amateur. 1. it's called a french manicure 2. get it done at a nail place (too many to name) about $10 but depends on where 3. you can do it yourself, go to wal-mart or some place and go to the beauty section, then nails and nail polish. you can get the fake ones as well or you could put on a clear coat(clear nail polish) or a light creamy white or vanilla color and it looks just as good.
You can go to any nail salon and ask for french tips, but, you have to make sure if its the one with pink nails with white tips or just clear nails with white tips. Depending on which one you want, specify which you want.
There is something you can do yourself, Sally Hanson makes it its called a french manicure kit.I'm sure other nail polish brands sell them as well.
You can even just buy the fake nails with the french tips already on them and just glue them on and file them down to your desired length.
Good Luck(:
awww thats cute you could go to the nail salon

What are some tips on polishing your nails without messing them up?
Are there other brushes you can use? What are some tips on polishing your nails without messing them up?
I find that it depends on the actual brush that the nail polish comes with. I have the best luck right now with Sally Hansen New Lengths polish, but I also like OPI. It also takes practice, and you need to take your time. Also, don't have too much polish on the brush, because that tends to make the coat too thick, and it will pool at the edges of your nails. What are some tips on polishing your nails without messing them up?
first chose your color. try a quick dry one [i reccomend OPI]
steps to nail polishing:
1. remove any old nail polish or residue with nail polish remover
2. soak your nails in ice cold water for 5-10 minutes. this helps the nail become harder and smoother before polish
3. apply a clear coat- or a coat of nail enamel
4. wait to dry
5. apply one coat of color evenly and thinly. wait to dry completely, or else it will smudge on your second coat
6. continue applying color coats each layer dries
7. when your nails are completely dry [a half an hour after the last coat?] apply a clear coat evenly and thinly
8. apply lotion to your hands--and your hands look like new
good luck and i hope this helps
Great new products. Try OPI's Rapid Dry. Dries fast and flawless makes polish last longer.
One layer at a time. Let it dry thoroughly before applying more. I always mess mine up if they aren't 100% dry

I've been biting my nails for 9 years. If I ever break the habit will my nails be strong enough?
I've heard that if I ever manage to stop biting my nails that they will never grow back normal. Is this true?
Also, I'm planning on going to a salon to get fake nails put on, will this to break the habit? Or should I just use the stuff from the drugstore that hardens and strengthen my nails?I've been biting my nails for 9 years. If I ever break the habit will my nails be strong enough?
Getting fake nails will help you but they will also ruin your nails when you take the top off. Instead, polish them. I had the same problem and i started biting off the polished part instead. It's gross as well but it'll help you break the habit and then you can just stop wearing nail polish.. Its completely up to you.. you have to find what works for you to break the habit because once you do, you will acually notice how gross it is!!I've been biting my nails for 9 years. If I ever break the habit will my nails be strong enough?
Your nails should grow back normal if and when you stop biting them. If you have naturally strong nails then that's how they will be when they grow out.
If you choose to get nails done to help you break the habit, make sure that you go to a reputable salon and have a professional, licensed nail technician do them. Do not go to a budget nail salon. They are known for damaging your nails. Remember, you get what you pay for. If you pay $15 for a full-set of nails then you can expect crappy work and damaged nails.
You will CAN break the habit. The webs below will help you.

What are the best kind of false nails to do yourself at home?
Acrylic, gel... it is very expensive to get them done professionally where I live. Whats the easiest way to make them look good myself as I bite my nails and I have no official beauty therapy training. What are the best kind of false nails to do yourself at home?
Acrylics and gels are really tough to do yourself even when you have all of the tools (like a drill, the right files, etc.), chances are you don't have those supplies, so I'd just get those stick-on nails from a drug store. They won't last as long, but they do look good for a couple of days and a cheap enough to do fairly often during the month. What are the best kind of false nails to do yourself at home?

How can I stop chewing on my nails and fingers?
I already tried using the nasty tasting stuff and it doesn't work. I also tried leaving a rubber around oround my wrist and popping myself with it. Will my fingers eventually become deformed? How can I stop chewing on my nails and fingers?
Relax. You do it because you are nervous. Find out what is making you so nervous and maybe you can then correct the problem. How can I stop chewing on my nails and fingers?
I would recommend - putting hot pepper into clear nail polish so each time you start to bite your nails, not only will it taste nasty, but also HOT!! and hopefully will deture you from chewing! Good Luck! (It doesn't matter if colored polish of course unless your a guy)
Get a manicure, even if they are short from biting. Once you see how good they can look, that will deter you and you'll begin to enjoy long nails. It's just a habit, so caring how you and your nails look will do the trick.
Most everyone has some little trick; here's one that worked for me. When I decided it was time to stop, I carried a nail clipper around with me at all times, and everytime I had the urge to chew, I instead took out my clipper and did a little trimming. After a while, the desire just sort of went away. That was 40 years ago, and I still don't bite my nails.
Good luck -- this is a fairly benign, but nasty little habit, and I wish you a quick ';cure';!
Put tape on your fingernails...
i do it too, its horrible - i did stop once with a very simple trick, you stop biting one finger at a time, then the next week stop another till you have just one left - you can either stop that one too, or keep it as a binky lol, i started again recently though due to stress, but this is the method i will use to stop again
Fingernails are on there to protect the sensitive ends of the fingers.
If you eventually stop biting your nails, any ';deformity'; should take care of itself.
There is some risk for infection if you chew your nails, human mouths being pretty buggy (like, bacteria), generally.
The best thing I have found to curb nail biting in myself is to have my nails done, or, if I don't have to have my hands scrupulously clean (like for work--I am a nurse), having artificial nails applied.
Distracting yourself is another good way to curb the biting. Notice when you bite them the most--driving, watching TV, boredom in any setting, nervousness? And then address the circumstances under which you chew your nails..... You may find that's half the battle.
I do not encourage the rubber band on the wrist routine: you can hurt the vessels that lie right under the skin if you hit them just right.

What are the white things on your nails?
OK what are the white tips on ur nails?
I really want to know what they are
They are totally natural just come and like on one hand the white tip is thick and on the other the tips are thin.
But does naybody know where they come from? What are the white things on your nails?
They are bruses, from hitting your nails on something. What are the white things on your nails?
Um they are not bruses stupid.
Well : according to fingernails they have an '; Trim line';
were located on each tip for ';Mannacures'; ect ! plus part
of daily grooming
Yes! its all protein. Thats what happens to the protein your body can't use. It gets put into your nails and hair. It just depends on how much protein you eat how long they are.
I've heard the white spots come from a nutrient deficiency. I don't have them, but I did when I was a child and did not eat well.
They are indicative of a zinc deficiency.
the white part of your nail is not pressed on your skin and the part thats not white is pressed on your skin
They are from lack of calcium... You need to drink more milk!!... and let them grow out.. itll take about 8 monthes
There are many reasons for this white spots. Most of them are due to mild traumas such as slamming your nail against something . It could be caused for the use of nail's hardeners or polish enamels or fake nails. Also could be lack of zinc or protein. Another reason could be psoriasis. My advise to you is this white spots don't disappears in the next two weeks you should see a dermatologist.
If you are talking about the little spots on you nailbed itsself, that is called leukonika(sp) which comes from pinching or hurting your nailbed. If your talking about the tip thats the free edge where your nail has grown away from your finger and the difference in thickness is because of how it grows may be related to damages, medicine, or numerous other things. Your nails and hair do not grow from calcium like your teeth and bones, they are made up of keratin!
They are actually called lucunicia - and are bruises where you have pinched are smashed a finger prior to the nail growing out.
I really want to know what they are

Well : according to fingernails they have an '; Trim line';
were located on each tip for ';Mannacures'; ect ! plus part
of daily grooming
Yes! its all protein.
They are actually called lucunicia - and are bruises where you have pinched are smashed a finger prior to the nail growing out.

once you put them on, you sort of have to wait for the glue to get weak...then you can pull them off without damage to your nail. but make sure the glue is weak or else your nail will be demented. either way though it takes a while to get the glue of your real nails once you get the fake nail off--or at least that happened to me. if you get sick of them you could also clips them down to your normal nail size and it will be less annoying.
soak them in fingernail polish remover[[which will make the glue weak]] and then push down the end of the nail [[sorta like a lever and the nail will come off on the side where its near ur skin and then all u have to do is pull it off.
Try soaking them in acetone ♥
soak them in acetone nail polish remover they sell it @ cvs then moistureize ur hands and nails afterwords b/c the acetone dries em out
BBQ sauce. Just kidding, but years ago when I was wearing some cool metallic silver press-on nails (to go with my black blouse with silver threads running through it), my nails came off during dinner in a restaurant. I had ordered ribs and the sauce just ate right through the glue.
I was young, and that was the first and last time I ever tried the fake nails. They have so many great polishes out nowadays, and short nails are pretty much in style, so it's easier to just use polish.
The other people have answered your question much better, of course. I was just trying to tell you to watch what you eat when you wear them.
Maybe you could soak them in warm water until the glue loosens up? Otherwise what I do is just pull them off quickly so your nails don't get really messed up.
Drugstore nails aren't the best things to put on your fingers anyway because the glue isn't that awesome.

What are some ways to make my nails stronger?
My nails are very fragile and they break and peel often. Any tips? What are some ways to make my nails stronger?
Since nails are an outgrowth of protein, eat foods rich in protein, like eggs, fish, and red meat. Brittle nails can mean that your body isn't getting the right amount of nutrients, so you can also take a daily multi-vitamin.
You can also add a coat of clear top coat to clean nails, which will help by adding a layer of strength. If you use a clear top coat, re-apply once a week. After 2 weeks, remove the old nailpolish and start with a new coat.
Another option is to go to a nail salon and ask for just the gel they use on fake nails to be applied to your real nails...this gel is very strong and will help prevent chipping and breakage. What are some ways to make my nails stronger?
DONT use sally hansen colored polishes! they peel off and take a layer of your nail with them. my nails are still in repair from that! try this http://www.sallyhansen.com/product.cfm?product=311. and a strengthening polish but nothing else for about two weeks and they'll be SOOOO much stronger and longer! my nails are growing at twice their normal pace.
Maybe you should having a base coat of nail polish, or using nail hardening polish.
Also, you may want to try putting a dab of nail polish under your nails. If the problem persists, talk to your doctor or a parent.
Good luck! Hope that helps!
Eat protein, drink milk. It really works.
And you can find nail-strengthening polish at the drugstore. I use Sally Hanson.

Ratty nails and the evil that is arm shredding?
Does anyone have any tips for cutting my ratlets' nails?
I have a brick below their water bottle to try and file them down and recently created a digging box for them, I just don't want to have to resort to getting out the clippers and pinning one of the squirmy little devils down.
They don't hinder their walking so it isn't urgent but I would like to save myself from having to explain these strange markings to fellow worker bees.Ratty nails and the evil that is arm shredding?
A heavy flat stone or brick in their cage right below their water bottle is a great way to file down nails without the trauma of clipping the nails yourself. If you'd like a quicker solution, I took these next two paragraphs from http://www.rmca.org/Articles/qna2_99.htm This is what I do with my own girls. Gotta have two people for mine or you'll have a rotten time!
Clip off only the sharp tip at the end of the nail. If you cut into the pink of the nail it will bleed and will be difficult to stop the blood flow. Some people use styptic powder to stop bleeding if the nail gets cut too close (rats are often hard to pin down for the nail clipping process). I prefer to use cornstarch and cinnamon. First, dip the hand or foot into the cinnamon and then the cornstarch, it usually stops minor bleeding.
I usually bribe my rats with a treat, and while they are busy eating I get a family member to gently restrain the rat. I pick up a hand or foot and press so that nails are extended a bit and the fingers are spread, and then cut off the sharp tip with human nail clippers. I have also taken emery boards to a few rat nails for rats who are too squirmy to clip. Be firm and quick. I always reward good behavior (like not shredding my arms and body by trying to get away from the nail clippers).Ratty nails and the evil that is arm shredding?
Mine get a ';spa day'; treatment, well as close to a spa as a laundry tub and couch arm get, so after I give them the horrible mean shock of a bath I set them on the arm of my couch and as quickly and carefully as possible clip their nails as they stand there, shiver, and glare at me for being such a mean mommy. I dont have to hold mine since they dont tend to move after baths but I use baby clippers and might if they dry off enough to feel like moving hold them in the air for 2 seconds clip a nail put them down and repeat until theyre all done.
I'm having the same problem. My arms and hands are like a war zone.
Mine do not sit still for clippings and I've even cut Star's quick twice because she squirms so much =(
I've tried wrapping them in a towel, but they only want to tunnel and find their way out.
I also find that some nails that are sharp are too short to cut without getting the quick.
I just put some pumice stone under their water bottle, but i have the feeling they are just maneuvering around it anyway. I'm thinking about lining one of their shelves with sand paper.
Sorry I don't have any helpful tips, but I'll be checking to see if someone does give a good answer and try it myself.

How long does it take for your nails to become healthy again after having your acrylic tips removed?
I have been using NutraNail almost daily, which did nothing. I then switched to Sally Hanson Triple Strength gel, which did nothing. Do I simply have to wait until the damaged nail portion totally grows out before seeing decent results?
Any suggestions? How long does it take for your nails to become healthy again after having your acrylic tips removed?
depends on how fast your nails grow. You have to wait until the nail grows back out. I only get that done once every year or two because if you get it done all the time like most people the constant filing down of the whole nail eventually damage your nail bed.
I suggest the glue on nails from walmart. You get a big box for about 6 dollars and it comes with glue and comes off easily when you soak in acetone. Its less harsh on your nail bed than having your nail filed down at the salon. And it looks natural and you can paint them what ever color you want to and you can even get the french tip kits and do that your self too.How long does it take for your nails to become healthy again after having your acrylic tips removed?
If you have not waited long time, try cutting them every 2 weeks, the more often you cut the more faster they will grow, thats if you want them to grow fast! :)
OUCH! that CANES! seriously.
but i would have to agree with the first answer,
your gonna have to wait a while, maybe a month or two
meanwhile, you can put colorful bandaids on top of them
thats what i did when i had glue all over mine from having fake nails
it depends on how long it takes them to grow. usually around 2-4 weeks after taking off fake nails, they will start looking normal again
depends how fast your nails grow but mine take usually 2 weeks. by week one they do look better though
Yes, you just have to wait until to grows out.

How can I make my nail polish last longer on my nails?
I love coloring my nails. But after a week of application, I can easily notice that it is fading so I have to color it again. And I'm a tired of doing this. I want a low maintenance nail color because I'm kinda busy. Can you give me any advice? Thanks in advance. How can I make my nail polish last longer on my nails?
put nails in ice cold water after first time drying to harden nails. Every few days, put on top coat again! How can I make my nail polish last longer on my nails?
I would suggest using a base coat, then the color, and finishing with a top coat. This usually helps to prevent the coat from peeling or cracking away. Another great idea is to look for more expensive nail colors that say nail ENAMEL on them instead of polish. Nail enamel tends to last a bit longer and be stronger than regular polish. (Depending on the brand of course). So choose a higher quality polish. Hope this helps.
My mum is a beautician so i get all this free advice and makeovers and such.
so to get nail polish lasting longer;
1. put on a single layer of clear polish
2. put on a layer of coloured polish
3. put on another layer of coloured polish
4. put on another layer of clear.
it will last for so long!
hope that helps.

put a clear coat on everyday or every other day and they should last longer... and i know you want it to be low maintenance so do it before you have to drive to work or something so they can dry while you drive
I usually put on one coat of the color of the polish, one coat of clear polish, and one last coat of the color polish. This lasts a really long time for me :D
Do a coat of the colour you want, and then do another with clear nailpolish.
I do this, and it lasts at least 3 weeks like that without getting rubbed off or chipped :)
I'll tell you what I do that makes my nail polish last so much longer.
- use a nail hardening polish
- a base coat polish
- then your desired color
- and a top coat!
It makes mine last so much longer!!
Sally Hansen's hard as nails clear coat as a base coat then the nail color and then another clear coat.
Once a week is actually a good amount of time for nail polish to last. You might consider an undercoat of nail hardener.
invest in a good quality rouge noir
try the original chanel one
i think it's timeless and a worthy investment
Rinse them with ethyl acetate when you are done.
try a clear coat of nail hardener it always worked for me.
Try a clear coat of polish over top :)
try using a finisher

What causes the white patches in your nails to show up?
I think it has something to with calcium levels, but not 100% sure.

How do you get fake nails off without hurting your real nails anymore?
I had acrylic tips put on at a nail salon for a special event. I now want them off. What is the best way to go about doing this and is there anything I should do to my nails after I get the acrylic tips off to help them heal faster or make them look better? How do you get fake nails off without hurting your real nails anymore?
U need acetone... soak your nails in it. If u can not get your hands on pure acetone, buy nail polish remover which is acetone based. Soak your nails in a bowl of it. It will take some time before your acrylic nails start to lift. All depends on how good the job was done in the first place. The better the job, the longer they will take to lift. There is little u can do to make your natural nails look better afterwards, except for cutting them short %26amp; filing them down during re-growth. When acrylic nails are put on, they have to file layers off your natural nails. It looks ugly, but grow them out %26amp; bear with it. Best thing u can try to make them look better whilst growing them out??? Clear polish %26amp; keep them short. How do you get fake nails off without hurting your real nails anymore?
you can go back to the salon and ask them to take them off for you, or you can try biting/ripping them off, but it will hurt. The best thing is to just let them grow out. After they come off, your real nails are going to be thin and brittle and not very nice looking. You can put one of those polishes that strenghten nails and makes them grow faster, but i usually just let them grow out. Good luck.
everyone who says soak them in acetone is correct, however they do this at nail salons which i would recommend...it shouldnt cost much... your nails wont look great though they will be weak until they grow out completely... you can buy pure acetone but probably only off line... or Home Depot carries it... if you chose to buy an acetone based nail polish remover, make sure to read the label to check that is actually has acetone in it because MOST are now acetone FREE... and even if there is acetone it will be a small amount and will take FOREVER to get the nails off... so just go see your local nail tech...she'll help you ..good luck
Soak your nails in acetone. It melts the acrylic. Moisturise your nails and apply a nail conditioner till there healthy again.
Acetone. Soak for a long time.
I had a little pot with a special lotion to dissolve them (was the same brand as the nails, so you should find something special for your nails too)
Afterwards use oil or cream for nails, and no polish for some time.
A good cure for nails in general is: bath your fingertips for ten minutes in warm olive oil (with some drops of lemon juice). Wipe off and massage in, don't wash.
I have the same problem. They hurt so much to take off. And then I can't get the dried glue off. Umm I heard soaking your fingers in cold, hot and in nail polish remover. I am not sure which one works. I just rip mine off which by the way hurts really bad so don't do it.
The problem with acrylic nails is that they destroy your real nails. I speak from experience. To get fake nails off they have to be soaked off with nail polish remover for an hour. I recently had acrylic nails put on and they looked very nice. Of course I had to go to the nail salon for a ';fill in'; which is more money. Anyway, I got disgusted and decided to have the nails come off on their own. Much to my surprise, the nail bed underneath was so weak and brittle, that all the nail growth peeled off and now I have very short nails..I am so disgusted, but what I did is I bought a protein product for the nail and I polish my nails every day and they are starting to grow. I vowed I will never ever again put those horrible plastic acrylic things on my nails ever again. A note of interested: Have you ever seen a nail technician with acrylic nails? No, because they know better. So, after you get acrylic nails off, buy the protein nail product and start filing down rough edges, polish every day, and wait for natural growth. You will have stronger nails and be better off. Best of luck.
cassandra is right, soaking would be the best thing..,.but that acetone makes my skin crawl. but you won't damage your nails.
soak them in warm/soapy water for about 20-30 minutes. after that, the glue should start to wear off and than you'll be able to peel them off, but gently!

you can go back to the salon and ask them to take them off for you, or you can try biting/ripping them off, but it will hurt.
What is a way to make your nails grow longer?
I'm trying to grow my nails out. I'm a nail-biter but i haven't bit them for two weeks but they are barely growing. Is there a way i could make them grow longer??What is a way to make your nails grow longer?
Dont bite them.
Keep them neat and clean.
Get your vitamins, eat fresh.
oh, and get LOADS of calcium, that really helped me. (milk, yogurts etc)What is a way to make your nails grow longer?
BIOTIN!! I love Biotin. It's a natural supplement you can buy in the vitamin isle at Walmart. It makes your nails strong and grow really pretty, and it also helps keep your hair and skin healthy (along with helping your hair grow a little faster and thicker too). You could also try prenatal vitamins, you don't have to be pregnant to take them!
Oh this is simple. Try to consume lots of calcium like 3 cups of milk a day! I do that and my nails look great! They look like they have a french manicure and they are very thick!
green tea helps
milk (anything with calcium or zinc)
there's a thing you can buy at stores like shopper's drug marts that is called ';nail enhancer'; or something like that, which helps nail growth.
haha this is what i did.
Every 3days paint your nails a really pretty colour(everytime a different colour)
so that way you wont want to bite them cause you like how they look
if you can like click or tap (not sure how to describe it) on a hard surface. it stimulates the part that makes your nails grow
dont bite them and try not to break them..paint ur nails so they are harder to break
get that green stuff at wal mart, nail growth stuff
my sister uses it
works
Vitamin B is really good

How can you remove fake nails with out damaging your natural nails?
I glued on some fake nails for a party, using the nail glue that came with them, and now I want to get them off. My natural nails are very thin, so I don't want to damage them at all if I can help it. Any ideas? How can you remove fake nails with out damaging your natural nails?
Soak your fingertips in a bowl of porfessional grade polish remover until they fall off and avoid the urger to break or scrape the gooey nails off. Then clip your natural nails short and file the ends smooth, then use a rich lotion, I like B%26amp;BWorks body butter, working it into your nails as often as you like, at least 2x a day to keep them from getting torn or dry. At least, that's what always works fo me.How can you remove fake nails with out damaging your natural nails?
Next time try using the type of glues that adhesive agent is extremely sencitive to acetone. You will find these types of glues in a Hobby/Craft shop. My fave is Testers Model glue that comes in a small tube. Make sure you scuff both contact points on the fake and real nail.
well wat u could do is put them in hot water then put nail polish remover that should help you
let them fall off themselfs. Or you'll damage your nail.
yeah.. soak them in acetone!!!!!
or go to a nail salon and have them do it
Soak your fingertips in a mild remover with acetone. They should melt right off.
Go to your nearest nail shop and let them take the nails off for you. Get it done professionally so you don't damage your nails. It only cost about $10.00 for them to remove nails.
O well i really dont kno about nails u put on yourself b-cuz i thought u were talking bout the nails u get done @ da shop b-cuz u can use antone to soak them.
use a chainsaw
just kiddin
just use some menthalated spirit it works
Soak them in 100% acetone remover it cost 3.99 to 6.99 for a large bottle.
Use a glass bowl to soak them off, cause it can cause plastic to melt. I tend to sit the bowl in another bowl filled with warm water like the salons do, not that it makes the process (half n hour to 45min) any quicker. Just feel better.
Good Luck!
:D
Im not sure you can. you could probaly cut them as shot as you can as to not do any damage to your nail them soak them in the solution to soften the fake nail. I always heard it pulls the top layer of your nails. I don't know i have natural nails.
get nail polish remover that is PURE acetone and soak your nails in it. this will actually cause the false nails to sort of melt (but it does not burn or anything). this is the best way to not damage your real nail because you don't have to pick at it and try to snap it off. I hope this helps you!
They sell a solution in any local drug store in the same spot where the nails or sold that you can soak your nails in to help remove the old nails. That or you can go to a salon and they can do it for you.
go to a nail salon and ask them to soak your nails in acetone it will melt the glue and the fake nails should come off without a problem
leave it to the pros!! go to a salon, or let them come off naturally!

Are there any supplements for hair or nails which really work?
I am trying to grow my hair and nails - I dye it blonde (not stopping ever) but have stopped straightening or blowdrying it. Is there anything else I can do to help it grow faster and or healthier? Cutting my hair regularly on the advice of hairdressers did not help at all.
My nails are also not very strong - I take calcium but is there anything else? Are there any supplements for hair or nails which really work?
To be honest, almost any multi will work. I used to take the Ultranourish Hair from GNC. (it has the same ingrediants as a pre-natal vitamin does, but, I didn't want to have ';pre-natal vitamins'; lying around my place b/c if anyone saw them, they would think I was trying to get preg.)But, since I'm buying a house now %26amp; cannot be spending allot of extra $$, I decided to switch to taking Centrum and also some extra biotin pills. (I get a big bottle of the Centrum from the wholesale club %26amp; you can get the biotin anywhere....doesn't need to be anything fancy, just try to take between 3000mcg %26amp; 5000mcg of biotin a day) And, to be completely honest, my hair and nails are growing at the EXACT same speed %26amp; same strength/quality as when I took the one's from GNC.
You do not need to cut your hair, unless you have slpit ends. Remember, hair grows from WITH-IN you, so, cutting it won't make it grow faster. Just get a trim whenever you see you have split ends. Oh, and make sure you are eating enough protein (hair is made up of protein) and drinking enough water (if you are dehydrated, you hair will be dry %26amp; could cause split ends)Are there any supplements for hair or nails which really work?
try prenatal vitamins my hair and nails were great when I took them
Take Gelatin tablets. Eating Jello won't help. Use the tablets.
I always heard Biotin.....
prenatal vitamins

What happens when i cut my kittens nails?
i just trimed the sharp part of her front paws. and shes not that hyper anymore. i hope i dindt do anything wrong. What happens when i cut my kittens nails?
Just make sure to only cut the tips. Don't cut ';the quick'; which is where the vein runs thru the nail. It it the pinkish color you will see on the nail. Otherwise you should be fine and it will keep your cat from clawing as much, cats are actually trying to shorten their claws when they scrach, not sharpen them. What happens when i cut my kittens nails?
You should trim her nails! She will be just fine. She may not have as sharp of nails but then again isn't that why you trimmed them?
U didn't she'll be back to normal when they grow back!!
You must be very careful if you clip a cats claws. It is very easy to cut too far back, and it will hurt them, and it will bleed. Get the cat a scratch post instead.
You have to be very careful when cutting the claws of cats. The reason is that they have tiny blood vessels that run through the nails and when you cut them, it is like cutting your nails too short; it hurts. You should get advise from your veterinarian, they will show you have to do it properly.
But please, never de-claw your kitties. I learned this the hard way, my cat Baccus was attacked by a dog and could not defend himself because he had no claws. I had to put him down because of it, and I still have not forgiven my self.blemishes

How do I keep my guitar fingerpicking nails intact, long, and strong?
I already file my right fingernails, but they always manage get ruined. My most occuring problem is that a top layer of nail peels off. The second most occuring problem is that pieces of the front of the nails sometimes are torn off easily. How can I strengthen my nails so that they do not peel or break? How do I keep my guitar fingerpicking nails intact, long, and strong?

This may not be the perfect answer for you, but it's the first. My mom used to get her nails done with this super strong clear coating on them at the nail salon. She found some of the stuff in a store and does it herself. It's amazing, her nails are thick and strong... and long and scary.... but it would solve your problem.
Go ask about it at an English speaking nail salon.

Whats the difference between gel and acrylic nails meaning which is a better option and why?
I use to get acrylic nails until someone told me about the gel nails....I think gel nails are better they seem stronger as far as breaking and when you need a fill they tend not to show as much as acrylic's do!!! Not only that but I smudge nail polish soooo bad!! And with the gel..once your done your done you don't have to wait for them to dry..and if you get the french tips they do it then put a layer of gel over which is really nice, because your nail polish doesn't rub off on the edges it stays there until you go for a fill which with gel you can go every 3 weeks instead of 2!!!!Whats the difference between gel and acrylic nails meaning which is a better option and why?
