What are some tips on polishing your nails without messing them up?

Are there other brushes you can use? What are some tips on polishing your nails without messing them up?
I find that it depends on the actual brush that the nail polish comes with. I have the best luck right now with Sally Hansen New Lengths polish, but I also like OPI. It also takes practice, and you need to take your time. Also, don't have too much polish on the brush, because that tends to make the coat too thick, and it will pool at the edges of your nails. What are some tips on polishing your nails without messing them up?
first chose your color. try a quick dry one [i reccomend OPI]

steps to nail polishing:

1. remove any old nail polish or residue with nail polish remover

2. soak your nails in ice cold water for 5-10 minutes. this helps the nail become harder and smoother before polish

3. apply a clear coat- or a coat of nail enamel

4. wait to dry

5. apply one coat of color evenly and thinly. wait to dry completely, or else it will smudge on your second coat

6. continue applying color coats each layer dries

7. when your nails are completely dry [a half an hour after the last coat?] apply a clear coat evenly and thinly

8. apply lotion to your hands--and your hands look like new

good luck and i hope this helps
Great new products. Try OPI's Rapid Dry. Dries fast and flawless makes polish last longer.
One layer at a time. Let it dry thoroughly before applying more. I always mess mine up if they aren't 100% dry
